The Locust Estates, a remarkable property with a rich historical background, traces its origins back to the late 18th century. Originally, this expansive tract of land spanning 4,000 acres was granted to Samuel Beall in 1784 by Patrick Henry. However, Beall went on to sell a significant portion of this land to George Nicholas, a prominent lawyer and the first Attorney General of Kentucky. He assigned 200 acres of the land to Robert Wooden, who took possession of the property during Nicholas' lifetime and made remarkable improvements to it. The official deed for this transaction was recorded in 1819, coinciding with the construction of the stone section of the house, although local tradition suggests that this structure and the nearby stone springhouse may date back even further circa 1790. The storied history of the Locust Estates is a testament to its enduring significance and the legacy of those who have inhabited and cared for this remarkable property over the centuries.
